Much more than a job

Ontario is vast and magnificent in terms of both its territory and people. Its police service is the Ontario Provincial Police.

We are known as the OPP and take pride in being regarded as Ontario's Police Professionals. We have earned the respect and trust of Ontario's citizenry and we are committed to preserving our reputation into the future.

We readily acknowledge that a diverse population is best served by a similar diversity of police membership. To maintain its tradition of excellence, the OPP seeks to augment its ranks with people representative of the cultural and racial diversity of the province we serve.

As a police employer, there are few to compare with the Ontario Provincial Police. We are committed to fair employment practices which ensure that qualified candidates have access to employment and that hiring decisions are made on the basis of merit. Our aim is to create a climate of mutual respect and understanding in which all people are equal in dignity and rights. Our commitment is entrenched in law but is exercised from principle.

In providing service to over one million square kilometres of land and water, the OPP ranks as one of North America's largest deployed policing agencies. With size comes virtually limitless opportunities to undertake a  variety of police duties, to specialize, to advance, to grow. Members apply their talents to duties which vary from traffic and general law enforcement to municipal policing functions. To assist them in carrying out their responsibilities, a variety of mobile equipment is at their disposal. Everything from motor vehicles, snowmobiles and boats, to helicopters and airplanes. An OPP recruit becomes a member of a very large team of highly qualified individuals dedicated to the profession. Our compensation package is excellent and those within the OPP will tell you that service is "MUCH MORE THAN A JOB".

Those applying must be sincere in their desire to perform in a law enforcement role and must understand the unique mandate of the Ontario Provincial Police. OPP members have the opportunity to serve in locations throughout the province ranging from metropolitan centres and agricultural communities to the vast north. Preferences for posting are taken into consideration.
