ISP = Internet Service Provider. (A telephone company gives you access to telephone lines, an ISP gives you access to the Internet.) Server = The ISP's name for the computer they have that is always connected to the Internet. When you connect to the Internet with your computer, it's the server that you are connecting to. The Internet is made up of millions of these servers. Hosting = Keeping your website files on the server. Just like purchasing a parking spot. http:// = Web Site or Page Address. Also known as an Internet Address or URL URL = Universal Resource Location. name@server = Internet Email Address Domain Name = www.yourname.com When somebody asks you what’s your URL or Internet Address or vise-versa, you will most likey still have to decide which of the above you’re talking about. MB = Megabyte (sounds painful) This is a computer filespace measurment. A common computer disk is just under 1 and a half MB's in size. GB = Gigabyte (sounds really painful) is 1000 MB's Modem = I like to call it a phone for the computer to use. Data = Computer file information. |
